Massage Therapy at Empower Fitness by Des Depass, LMT.

Des Depass, LMT, has been a massage therapist for 15 years, received thousands of hours of training and during that time has worked on thousands of people and studied many different forms of massage, including warm stone, myofascial release, swedish, deep tissue, Thai, sports massage and many more.
Today, his practice focuses on giving you a massage that is customized to your needs and what your body is going through. Sometimes you may want full body work done and other times there are specific spots or a specific goal that needs the attention and he will go to work on only that.
He is highly experienced in relieving many various forms of pain, stiffness headaches, immobility of joints (hips, knees, wrists, necks, ankles, shoulders, etc.). He will always seek out and find the problem area, as well as dealing with the symptoms themselves. Quite often you feel the symptom, meanwhile, the problem area gives you little to no trouble that you would notice. Taking care of both is his specialty. Healing can occur on many different levels, whether it is spot-specific to full body or deep work to light work, you and he will work together to make sure your massage is effective for YOU.

How Massage Works
Massage loosens up tight muscles and has them let go of the stress and tension they have been holding on to. Muscles also hold onto memory, this could be caused from any event in your life that would have you "tense" up (physical and psychological). This tensing effect is quite unconscious and puts a strain on the various muscular systems of the body, compromises balance, core stability, impedes movement, organ function, even breathing. This dysfunction follows a very specific pathway that must be relieved from specific spots around the body.
Regarding organ function, it is important to note that the muscles that are closest to the spine are able to restrict and impinge the nerves that branch off of the spine. This leads to reduced nerve conduction/function and can affect the organs that these nerves lead out to. These "organs" could be muscular, digestive, sexual, etc. Relieving and relaxing the muscles at the base of these nerves allows for proper conduction to be immediately restored and the body to return to normal function and movement. Massage Therapy Benefits of Massage
Massage has been proven to:
-Relieve back pain
-Boost immune system
-Reduce anxiety
-Lower blood pressure
-Treat migraines
-Decrease carpal tunnel symptoms
-Ease post-operative pain
-Alleviating side effects of cancer**
-Restoring the function of digestive organs
-Help restore proper length-tension relationships among muscles surrounding joints. Examples are: meniscus, low back, carpal tunnel, headaches caused by tight muscles of the neck, tennis and golfer's elbow, etc. Modalities
Swedish - Excellent for light pressure and relieving stress, this form of massage incorporates lots of long strokes.
Deep Tissue - Deep body work, focuses on rebalancing the muscles of the body with one another. Excellent for people who enjoy some healing pain during their massage.
Shiatsu - Pressure ranging from deep to very deep. This bodywork focuses on restoring the balance of the meridians (energy lines) of the body. By restoring balance among these lines, the body's 'chi' flows properly and efficiently, thus allowing the organs of the body to operate at their best.
Myofascial Release - Releasing the fascia that wraps the muscle and holds it together can profoundly reduce tension and "stuck" areas all around the body.
Warm Stone Massage - Using basalt from highly volcanic parts of the world, the stones have a positive influence on the aura and subtly, yet powerfully helps to rebalance this form of energy that surrounds the body.
Note: Over the years, I have come to use a combination of these modalities to bring about an efficient form of healing that addresses multiple issues within a single session.
