With class sizes of four, I’ve had a great deal more fun working out and never lacked having a workout buddy for off-class gym days. Many programs later, I’ve made a number of great friends and feel comfortable in any gym. What’s the strongest recommendation I can give? I highly recommend Greg. I am a 38 year old male and tried many options to get in shape, and tried hard. But progress was minimal. I am the first to admit I was addicted to cardio! I would spend probably close to 2hrs/day, 6 days a week in the gym. Though I?d always lifted weights, it was very automatic and secondary to killing myself in cardio classes (Spinning, boxing, boot camps, you name it I did it! Often 2 back-to-back.). Despite all the gym time I'd logged, I really wasn't happy with the way I looked. Then I reluctantly tried Greg's training program this summer. "Just trust me" he said. "Are you happy with what you're doing now?" Well, no. So I trusted him. I cut my cardio WAYYYYYY back- terrifyingly so in my opinion! - and really focused on lifting. The cardio I did do was very intense interval training, for much less than half the time of my normal routine. We also addressed my nutrition. I'd manipulated my diet for years based on the latest diet craze, eliminating certain types of foods and alcohol completely. Greg got me on the right track and I'm less rigid and less hungry than I've ever been in my life. In addition to having so much more time on my hands outside of the gym, I'm becoming reacquainted with items in my wardrobe I haven't worn in years. Despite drastically reducing my gym time, I've never been in better shape and am not tied to a gym's group fitness schedule. I highly recommend Greg's training programs to anyone looking to find both balance and a better body!!

I started training with Greg not long after my 60th birthday. I was a woman with chronic scoliosis, bad posture, regular back spasms, and diminishing bone density. And I was still carrying around the 10 extra pounds I had gained when I had kids 25 years ago! I’ve now done several of Greg’s 10-week programs and have seen amazing results: I stand taller (I’ve “grown” ¼ inch), my bone density has improved, my back pain is rare and manageable ... and I’ve dropped a dress size. The reasons Greg’s program has worked for me are many, but I know I’ve responded to his intelligence, knowledge and care (he adjusts all the exercises to fit my physical limitations), the seriousness with which he approaches his work, and the small-group environment. Even though the people in my groups have always been younger and generally much buffer than I am, Greg and his other clients have always made me feel comfortable. I tried different eating techniques and workout routines in the past with some success, but nothing compares to the results I got from Greg's 10 week program. I started Greg’s fitness group with a different goal than many of his other clients: I am 5’10” and started at 139 lbs with 11% body fat. Admittedly, I have a small frame, but a little extra muscle never hurts, right?
There are many great things about Greg’s program, but three that especially worked for me were the balanced approach (food *and* variety of workouts - cardio, strength, metabolic, etc.), personal attention (the program was tailored just for me, monitored and adjusted depending on how I was doing), and Greg’s ability to gauge how much I could do to get the most out of the program.
The food component was really important for me. I’m gluten intolerant, so had basically cut carbs out of my diet. When I added potatoes (sweet) and whole grain rice back into my diet, I was able to work out harder and gain weight (all muscle!) faster. After my first session, I was 148 lbs and 10% percent body fat. I slid back a little and started the second session at 145, but ended at 152lbs – an all time high (in a good way), still at 10% body fat.
For the first week or two, my workout was similar to the others in the (small) group. But then my program diverged, focusing more on strength and building muscle, while others focused on a balance of muscle growth and fat loss. By keeping the groups small (ours was four), Greg is able to focus on each person in a cost effective way, and tailor the program for each person, while monitoring form and gauging progress (often, only two people were working out – the other two were resting).
And finally, I feel confident that I got the most out of the program because Greg is experienced and careful, both about form and about how hard to push. I can get injured easily, but came out of the sessions feeling like I had worked hard (*really* hard) without getting hurt.
Bottom line: I’ll be signing up for another session this spring. Beach season is around the corner!
